Contec Co. Ltd., a manufacturer of PC-based instrument interfaces and industrial computers, has released two new compact CPU boards for embedded applications. The boards support the PCI bus and use low power consumption versions of the Intel® Pentium® III (or Celeron®) CPU. [Product name: Half-Size, PCI Bus, Single-Board Computer Model: SPC-8622-LVA (800MHz Pentium III model), SPC-8620-LVA (400MHz Celeron model)].
The SPC-8622-LVA is a compact PCI bus CPU board for embedded applications. The board uses the VIA CLE266 (VT8623/VT8235) chipset, an 800MHz Intel Low Power Pentium III (FSB 133MHz, 512KB L2 cache), and supports a maximum main memory of 512MB of PC2100 DD® SDRAM. Despite being a compact half-size board (186(L) x 123(H) mm), the board includes an AC97 sound function and an extensive array of expansion interfaces including 1 x 100BASE-TX LAN, 2 x USB 2.0, 1 x parallel, 2 x serial, and 1 x CompactFlash (CF) card slot.
The SPC-8620-LVA uses the 400MHz Intel Ultra Low Voltage Celeron (FSB 100MHz, 256KB L2 cache) which can operate without a fan using a naturally cooled heatsink. The board operates on a single 5VDC power supply and power can be supplied directly from a board connector to enable the board to be used standalone (without a backplane). Other non-CPU specifications are the same as the SPC-8622-LVA.
The CF card slots on both boards support TrueIDE. As the OS can boot from a TrueIDE CF memory card, the boards can be used without an HDD. With the SPC-8620-LVA in particular, you can construct a system with no moving parts such as a fan or HDD.
