Contec Co. Ltd., a manufacturer of PC-based instrument interfaces and industrial computers, has developed a new compact CPU board for embedded applications. The board supports the ISA bus and uses the x86 compatible 400MHz VIA Eden ESP4000 CPU which features fanless operation and low power consumption. The new board goes on sale from October 25  The SIS-8601-LVA is a compact ISA bus CPU board for embedded applications that is used by mounting in a ISA backplane board (sold separately). The CPU board uses the VIA Apollo PLE133¡ÊVT8601A¡Ë + VT82C686B chipset, the low heat dissipation/low power consumption VIA Eden ESP4000 400MHz CPU, and supports a maximum of 512MB of SDRAM main memory. An SMI Lynx SM722 ¡ÊPCI connection, 8MB VRAM) VGA controller is also included. This provides flexible support for a range of different LCD panel displays including TFT, DSTN, and monochrome.  Despite its small size, the board includes an extensive array of on-board devices including a Disk On Chip socket (supports SDDs up to 144MB), an AC97 compliant sound function, and LAN (100BASE-TX/10BASE-T), 2 x USB 1.1, serial, parallel, EIDE and PS/2 external interfaces.  CONTEC can also supply six different types of ISA bus backplane suitable for the SIS-8601-LVA with between 6 and 14 slots each, together with rack-mount, wall-mount, and desktop chassis in appropriate sizes for each backplane size.
