Contec Co. Ltd., a manufacturer of PC-based instrument interfaces and industrial computers, has developed and commenced sale of the [PIO-32/32RL(PCI)H and PIO-16/16RL(PCI)H PCI Bus, Opto-Isolated, Digital I/O Boards]. These new opto-isolated digital I/O boards for the PCI bus feature reverse-common (current source) I/O circuits and are suitable for use as components in PC-based instrument control systems.
The two new models are digital signal I/O interface boards for the PCI bus and can perform digital I/O of signals in the range 12 to 24VDC. The output circuits use current source (NP) transistor outputs with photo-coupler isolation. The input circuits also use photo-coupler isolation and can connect to current source outputs. The PIO-32/32RL(PCI)H has 32 input and 32 output channels. The PIO-16/16RL(PCI)H has 16 input and 16 output channels.
Although control systems typically use current-sink circuits for control signals because they are easier to use, current-source circuits (as used in these boards) are safer because inputs go to the "OFF state" if disconnected or shorted to common, and the output load goes to the "OFF state" if the output is disconnected or shorted. As a result, use of current source circuits is becoming more common in systems where safety is an important consideration. Also, as these boards are the PCI bus version of CONTEC's ISA bus boards [product code: PIO-32/32RL(PC), and others] with the same I/O specifications, they can be used in PCI bus systems that replace old ISA board based systems.
The two boards are sold complete with driver software for both Windows and Linux [product code: API-PAC(W32)] and application software can be developed using Visual Basic or Visual C++ on Windows, and gcc or Kylix on Linux.

| [ Features ]
- A different external power supply can be used for each common pin as it is shared by 16 channels.
- The PCI bus (personal computer) and the I/O interface are isolated from each other by an opto-coupler, offering good noise immunity.
- You can use 16 signal channels of the input signals as interrupt inputs.
- You can also select the interrupt trigger edge of the input signal.
- The board has a digital filter feature to prevent noise or chatter from causing erroneous inputs.
- Up to 35 VDC, 100 mA per signal, max. output.
- Zener diode connected to output transistors for protection from surge voltage. Overcurrent protective device provided for every eight channels of output transistors.
