Contec Co. Ltd., a manufacturer of PC-based instrument interfaces and industrial computers, has developed and commenced sale of the new "ADA16-8/2(CB)L low-cost, high-precision, non-isolated, analog I/O card for CardBus". The new product is a multi-function CardBus PC card featuring 16-bit analog I/O, digital I/O, and counter functions and can be used as a component in PC-based instrument control systems.
The ADA16-8/2(CB)L is a PC Card Standard compliant CardBus PC card and incorporates eight high-precision analog input channels (16-bit A/D conversion), two high-precision analog output channels (16-bit D/A conversion), four digital input and four digital output channels (3.3VDC-LVTTL), and a single-channel counter (32-bit binary). With functions that include a programmable timer and external trigger input, the card's analog I/O function can be used to perform signal I/O at fixed time intervals or synchronized with an external signal. Installed in a notebook PC, the card can be used to implement a wide range of PC-based instrument control systems using various different signal I/O interfaces.
The ADA16-8/2(CB)L is the PC card version of the equivalent ADA16-8/2(LPCI)L Low Profile PCI board model (already on sale). Systems developed using the ADA16-8/2(LPCI)L on a desktop PC can now be transferred to a notebook PC with minimal changes. Connection cables are sold separately and can be selected to suit the type of connection being used. Special-purpose shielded cable (product code PCA68PS) can be used if connecting via a terminal block, and ribbon-fused shielded cable (product code PCA68PS) can be used if connecting directly to the equipment without going via a terminal block.
The ADA16-8/2(CB)L is sold together with driver software for both Windows and Linux [product code: API-PAC(W32)] and application software can be developed using Visual Basic or Visual C++ on Windows, and gcc on Linux.

| [ Features ]
- Rich set of basic functions
Compact system providing high-precision analog inputs/outputs.
ADA16-8/2(CB)L contains analog inputs (16-bit, 8ch), analog outputs (16-bit, 2ch), analog I/O control signals (6ch), digital inputs (4ch), digital outputs (4ch), and counters (32-bit binary, 1ch).
- Substantial control functions
Capable of analog input/output in either time-based mode or external-signal synchronous mode.
- Filter function for easy connection of external signals
The digital input signals, counter input signals, and the external control signals for analog I/O incorporate a digital filter to prevent problems such as chattering.
- Containing the Buffer memory
The analog inputs and outputs each have their own buffer.
You can also perform analog input and output in the background, independent of software and the current status of the PC.
- Software-based calibration
Setting and calibrating the analog input and output ranges can be performed completely by software.
No tricky jumper settings are required. You can also set your own calibration data in place of the default data set at the factory and use different calibration data depending on the operating conditions.
- The same systems can be implemented on either desktop or notebook PCs
The "Analog L Series" PC cards (ADA16-8/2(LPCI)L and ADA16-8/2(CB)L) have equivalent functionality.
Systems developed on a desktop PC can be ported directly to a notebook PC with minimal changes

| [ Support Software ]
You should use CONTEC support software according to your purpose and development environment.
- Driver Software Library API-PAC(W32) (Bundled)
API-PAC(W32) is the library software that provides the commands for CONTEC hardware products in the form of Windows standard Win32 API functions (DLL). It makes it easy to create high-speed application software taking advantage of the CONTEC hardware using various programming languages that support Win32 API functions, such as Visual Basic and Visual C/C++
It can also be used by the installed diagnosis program to check hardware operations.
CONTEC provides download services at (http://www.contec.com/download/) to supply the updated drivers and differential file.
- Linux version of analog I/O driver API-AIO(LNX)
(Supplied: Stored on the API-PAC(W32) CD-ROM)
This driver is used to control CONTEC analog I/O boards (cards) from within Linux.
You can control CONTEC I/O boards easily using the shared library used by gcc, the device driver (module) for each kernel version, and the board (card) configuration program (config).
