Contec Co. Ltd., a manufacturer of PC-based instrument interfaces and industrial computers, has developed and commenced sale of the "PIO-16/16L(CB)H CardBus, Opto-Isolated, Digital I/O Card". The new CardBus PC card supports input and output of 12 to 24VDC digital signals and is suitable for use as a component in a PC-based instrument control system.  The PIO-16/16L(CB)H is a CardBus PC card and complies with the PC Card Standard. The card has 16 photo-coupler isolated open-collector outputs (current sink outputs) and 16 photo-coupler isolated inputs (able to be connected to current sink outputs) and can perform input and output of 12 to 24VDC digital signals. All 16 of the inputs can be used as interrupt inputs. A digital filter function (with software setup) is also included to prevent invalid input due to noise or chattering. The digital outputs have Zener diodes to protect the output circuits from surge voltages together with over -current protection for each block of eight channels.  The PIO-16/16L(CB)H is sold complete with driver software for both Windows and Linux [product code: API-PAC(W32)] and application software can be developed using programming languages such as Visual Basic or Visual C/C++ on Windows and gcc or Kylix2 on Linux.  The PIO-16/16L(CB)H is the successor to the previous PC card model (product code: PIO-16/16L(PM)) which did not support CardBus.  Also, because the card is functionally equivalent and has the same connector shape and signal connections as the PCI board models (product code: PIO-16/16L(PCI)H and PIO-16/16L(LPCI)H), the new card enables applications developed for use with these boards on desktop PCs to be ported to a notebook PC. [ Features ] The signal assignment for the connector is compatible with the PIO-16/16L(PCI)H, PIO-16/16L(PCI), and PIO-16/16L(PM). The response time has been improved to 200µsec or better. Individual external power supplies can be used for each common pin as it is shared by 16 signal points. The PC card slot side (PC) and the I/O interface are isolated from each other by an opto-coupler, offering good noise immunity. You can use all of the input signals as interrupt inputs. You can also select the interrupt trigger edge of the input signal. The PC card has a digital filter feature to prevent noise or chatter from causing erroneous inputs. Up to 35 VDC, 100 mA per signal, max. output. The output transistor has a zener diode connected to protect the PC card from surge voltages. Overcurrent protective device provided for every eight channels of output transistors.

It can also be used by the installed diagnosis program to check hardware operations. Linux version of analog I/O driver API-AIO(LNX) (Supplied: Stored on the API-PAC(W32) CD-ROM) This driver is used to control CONTEC analog I/O boards (cards) from within Linux. You can control CONTEC I/O boards easily using the shared library used by gcc, the device driver (module) for each kernel version, and the board (card) configuration program (config).
