Contec Co. Ltd., a manufacturer of PC peripherals, industrial computers, and network equipment, has developed and commenced sale of the CNT32-4MT(CB) "32-bit high-speed up/down counter card for CardBus", a PC Card Standard compliant CardBus PC card for inputting and counting high-speed pulse signals.
The CNT32-4MT(CB) PC card has four 32-bit up/down counter channels and can be used in PCs such as notebook PCs that have a CardBus compliant PC card slot.
As the digital scales, gauges, rotary encoders, and other sensors used to detect position, load, and angle have achieved faster speeds and greater precision to meet the growing needs for higher quality and greater complexity in machine tools, processing, and materials handling equipment, the input interfaces on the controllers that receive these inputs must also support faster speeds and greater precision.
The CNT32-4MT(CB) meets this demand for higher speed and precision by incorporating 32-bit counters and being able to handle high-speed pulses up to a maximum of 10MHz (50% duty).
Another feature of the card is that the operation mode can be selected to suit the application. The operation modes consist of a mode that allows the count to be read directly in realtime for use with a feedback counter in a control system, and a periodic sampling mode with a bus master transfer function intended for use in measurement systems.
Although the input interface is non-isolated and uses LVTTL levels, the CTP-4D counter input differential/TTL input conversion terminal (sold separately) can be used to connect a voltage differential line driver output.
The CNT32-4MT(CB) complies with the JEITA (Japan Electronics and Information Technology Association) Phase 2 lead-free level. (Products that meet this standard are indicated by Contec's Pb Free logo.)

- Supports two-phase and single-phase input signals.
- Supports input of pulse signals up to 10MHz. The minimum phase difference able to be detected is 25nsec.
- Can be converted to a differential input interface using the differential unit (CTP-4D) and connection cable (CNT-68M/50M) sold separately.
- One control signal input point per channel.
- The count value can be sampled at a sampling rate of up to 20MHz.
- High-speed data transfer between the PC card and the PC can be performed without loading the CPU by using the bus master transfer function.
- An interrupt can be generated, an external signal output, and the count value reloaded or cleared to zero when the count reaches a specified value.

- Driver Library API-PAC(W32) (Bundled)
API-PAC(W32) is the library software that provides the commands for CONTEC hardware products in the form of Windows standard Win32 API functions (DLL).
It makes it easy to create high-speed application software taking advantage of the CONTEC hardware using various programming languages that support Win32 API functions, such as Visual Basic and Visual C/C++.
It can also be used by the installed diagnosis program to check hardware operations.
CONTEC provides download services to supply the updated drivers and differential files.
