Contec Co. Ltd., a manufacturer of PC peripherals, industrial computers, and network equipment, has developed and commenced sales of two new models in its panel computer series (panel mounted computers with built-in LCD panel) that are sold with the Windows CE embedded operating system pre-installed [Product name: Panel Computer Incorporating Windows CE .Net 4.2]. The new models feature 6.5 inch touch-panel screens and are the smallest models in the panel computer series.
The IPC-PT/SV10DC1-4J and IPC-PT/SV10DC1-4E run the Windows CE .Net 4.2 operating system and use the high-speed SH-4 RISC chip from Renesas Technology which features fanless operation. The new computers utilize proprietary technology from XIP and CONTEC that allows them to boot in as little as 10 seconds from turning on the power. The housing is the same new design used for the 12.1 inch and 10.4 inch models and features a simple attachment mechanism whereby fittings on the rear of the unit allow the panel housing to be pushed into place (recognized by users as an improvement over the previous series), and a front panel that complies with the IP65 standard for dust-tightness and splash-proofing.
In terms of software, the computers come with a range of tools developed by CONTEC that have been well-regarded by users of earlier computer series. These include a backup function for the registry and object store, the "NF Disk" function which allows the internal flash ROM (32MB approx.) to be used as a disk image, and "CONTEC Manager (pre-installed)", a utility developed by CONTEC to support both the development and operation phases with functions including a scheduler, FTP server and autorun.
