Contec Co. Ltd., a manufacturer of PC peripherals, industrial computers, and network equipment, has developed and commenced sales of three new models in its panel computer series (panel-mounted computers with a built-in LCD touch panel) that are sold with the Windows CE embedded operating system pre-installed [Product name: Embedded Panel Computer Incorporating Windows CE .Net 4.2]. The three new models are specifically designed for embedded applications and are available in 12.1", 10.4", and 6.5" screen sizes.  The panel computer series of computers feature a built-in TFT color LCD display with a touch panel function, an open-frame type housing suitable for embedded use, and a high-speed SH-4 RISC chip CPU from Renesas Technology (SH7751R, 430MIPS/240MHz) that can be used without a fan. The series also comes standard with various peripheral devices including an internal audio function for use with external stereo speakers and a range of expansion interfaces such as a USB port, 10/100BASE-TX, PCMCIA, and RS-232C.  Because the operating system (Windows CE .NET 4.2) and drivers for the various peripheral devices are preinstalled, you can implement a system simply by loading your Windows CE user program developed using "eMbedded Visual Tools" or similar onto the internal Flash ROM (32MB approx.). The operating system supports high-speed loading using proprietary technology from XIP and CONTEC and can boot from the power-off state in as little as ten seconds.  The computers also come with a range of tools developed by CONTEC that support both the development and operation phases and which are well-regarded by users of earlier computer series. These include a backup function for the registry and object store, the "NF Disk" function which allows the internal flash ROM (32MB approx.) to be used like a disk, and the "CONTEC Manager (pre-installed)" utility with functions including a scheduler, FTP server and autorun.
