CONTEC Analog I/O Boards

ML-DAQ Data Acquisition Library for MATLAB

 Contec Co. Ltd., a manufacturer of PC peripherals, industrial computers, and network equipment, has developed a software library [Product name: Data Acquisition Library for MATLAB, Product code: ML-DAQ] that enables CONTEC analog I/O boards and PC cards to be used with MATLAB(*1), a technical computing language used for technical analysis from The MathWorks Inc. (Massachusetts, USA), and the CONTEC products have been certified as recommended MATLAB DAQ (data acquisition) boards. As a result, the company has now made the ML-DAQ software library available for free download from the CONTEC web site.

 ML-DAQ is a software library for using CONTEC analog I/O boards and PC cards (referred to below as CONTEC DAQ boards) from MATLAB's signal I/O module called the "Data Acquisition Toolbox". MATLAB users who have the Data Acquisition Toolbox and a DAQ board can use the board by downloading and installing ML-DAQ.

 The various functions of CONTEC DAQ boards can be used from Data Acquisition Toolbox via the standard command (function call) interface which will be familiar to MATLAB users. Operation is not restricted to simple signal I/O and supports advanced signal measurement techniques using parameter settings such as sampling clocks and trigger conditions.

 ML-DAQ Ver.1.00 (initial release) supports six different CONTEC analog I/O boards and PC cards, and CONTEC plans to progressively add to this list of supported models.

*1 MATLAB is a high-level technical computing language and interactive environment for use in algorithm development, data visualization, and numerical calculations. The software has become a standard platform for design and simulation in a range of different industries and is used both domestically and internationally. With MATLAB, users can solve scientific and technical calculation problems more quickly than would be possible using traditional programming languages such as C, C++, and Fortran.

[ Features of the ML-DAQ Data Acquisition Library for MATLAB ]

  • Supports the standard MATLAB interface
    The library allows CONTEC analog I/O boards to be used with MATLAB, which is used both domestically and internationally. The boards can be used via the standard MATLAB interface. This means operation will be familiar to existing users and CONTEC boards can easily be substituted for boards from other manufacturers.

  • Supports all measurement and control analog I/O board functions
    Supports both the analog I/O and digital I/O functions of the analog I/O boards.

  • Data acquisition can be performed directly from MATLAB
    Measurement data can be accessed directly from MATLAB. The powerful analysis tools of MATLAB can be applied to the measured data.

  • Advanced data acquisition
    In addition to simple I/O operation, periodic measurements driven by various triggers can also be performed. Conditions such as "data acquisition complete" can be used to generate events.
[ Software Structure ]

  • The ML-DAQ software library operates as an interface between MATLAB and the device driver.
  • All that is needed to use the software is to install the ML-DAQ software library and required device drivers.
    New DAQ boards can be supported by upgrading the driver.
    Device drivers are included with each DAQ board.
