Pt100 Temperature Sensor Input Module
Added to the "USB Module" Series for Easy USB Connection

 Contec Co. Ltd., a manufacturer of PC peripherals, industrial computers, and network equipment, has developed and commenced sales of the Pt100 Temperature Sensor Input Module [PTI-4(USB)] as its "USB Module" series with the concept of simple and convenient USB connection.

 Pt100 Temperature Sensor Input Module [PTI-4(USB)] supports Pt100 (JIS C1604-1997, IEC 751 1983) and JPt100 (JIS C1604-1989) platinum resistance temperature detectors, and it can measure the temperature range of -200 to 850°C when using Pt100 and that of -200 to 510°C when using JPt100. It has functions such as averaging by count, averaging by time and a digital filter function, and so it can be used with a notebook personal computer as a test/research tool. Also, it has an alarm output function (generating an alarm output at a given setting threshold) and disconnection detection function, so it can be applied to an automatic inspection line and a monitoring system, etc.

< About USB Module Series >
 When a system was conventionally built using a personal computer, PCI board was installed in the expansion slot of a desktop personal computer, and measurement and control were realized. However, it may be hard to build a system in some cases since the number of expansion slots is limited, and for notebook personal computers having no expansion slot, it may be even more difficult to realize the same measurement and control as those with PCI board. To solve such problems, our USB Module Series adopts USB for the interface with a personal computer so that it can connect with many types of personal computers. Also, the main unit is very compact and takes up little space even on a desk. It is available for any personal computers with USB support, especially best for notebook personal computers with no PCI expansion slot. When using it with a desktop personal computer, connection can be done simply, without opening a main unit cover.
 The installation on a personal computer is quick and easy, and with bundled utility software, you can start input and output of signals instantly. In addition to communication by Full Speed (12Mbps), the USB Module Series supports the communication by High Speed (480Mbps). When a host controller supports High Speed USB 2.0, the module will communicate at 480Mbps. When communicating at High Speed, the response for module access is improved compared with that at Full Speed and high speed data transfer is realized.

[ Features ]

  • Supporting a variety of temperature measurement applications
    Providing the averaging and alarm output functions as well as resistance/temperature data acquisition for temperature measurement, thereby supporting various application.
    Serviceable with either a three-wire or four-wire platinum resistance temperature detector.

  • Resistance / temperature data acquisition
    Capable of acquiring resistance data from a platinum resistance temperature detector connected. While the output from the platinum resistance temperature detector is nonlinear with respect to temperature changes, the module internally linearizes the input to obtain data as temperature values.

  • Averaging by count
    Capable of averaging data input after input data by sampling count.

  • Averaging by time
    Capable of averaging data input by a specified time.

  • Alarm output
    Capable of sensing an alarm output upon detection of a temperature outside the set temperature range. The module can be programmed to take action only when the alarm output changes.
    The alarm output can be set for each channel.
    The alarm output range can be set with four levels: higher high limit, high lower limit, lower high limit, and lower low limit.

  • Digital Filter
    Incorporating a digital filter for eliminating noise from the commercial power supply (50/60 Hz). Note that the digital filter can be used only at a conversion speed of 150 ms.


  • Capable of detecting the discontinuity in a resistance temperature detector or conductor per channel.

  • Isolated from external device
    Using an opto-coupler to isolate the CPU in the module from the external device, preventing the external device from electrically affecting the host computer directly via the USB port.

  • Easy-to-install design
    The system, in the module itself, incorporates a 35mm DIN rail mounting mechanism as a standard item, so it can be attached and detached easily.

  • Easy to wire
    The system incorporates a scrawls connector plug that allows you to easily attach and detach wires without using any special tools.

  • Easy to extend input channel
    By adding expansion modules Option, the number of input channels can be increased.
    It adopts the unique configuration of stack connecting which permits a simple, compact system configuration. PTI-4(USB) + PTI-4(FIT)GY x 5 (Up to 24 input channels can be extended)

  • Easy-to-develop-application Sample Program
    Visual Basic, Visual C++, Delphi and C++ Builder sample programs have been prepared.
    Functions convenient for developing generic applications, such as the functions that acquire the list of the current available USB modules, are prepared.

  • Convenient utility for debugging
    When the problem occurred, it will be helpful to solving the problem.
