Contec Co. Ltd., a manufacturer of PC peripherals, industrial computers, and network equipment, has developed and commenced sales of two new models, the high-resolution (16bit) analog input module [ADI16-4(USB)] and high-resolution (16bit) analog output module [DAI16-4(USB)] as its EUSB ModuleE series with the concept of simple and convenient USB connection.

The analog input module [ADI16-4(USB)] can measure an analog voltage signal in the range of ±10V or an analog current signal in the range of 0 to 20mA with a resolution of 16-bit. It has a buffer memory for 256K data and various functions such as sampling data periodically by using a built-in timer and starting and stopping the sampling by the detection of an edge (rising/falling) of a given setting value.
The analog output module [DAI16-4(USB)] can output a voltage signal in the range of ±10V or a current signal in the range of 0 to 20mA with a resolution of 16-bit. It has a buffer memory for 256K data and can output signals periodically by using a built-in timer. It can be used as a simulation signal source of actuator control and arbitrary waveform, etc.
< About USB Module Series >
When a system was conventionally built using a personal computer, PCI board was installed in the expansion slot of a desktop personal computer, and measurement and control were realized. However, it may be hard to build a system in some cases since the number of expansion slots is limited, and for notebook personal computers having no expansion slot, it may be even more difficult to realize the same measurement and control as those with PCI board. To solve such problems, our USB Module Series adopts USB for the interface with a personal computer so that it can connect with many types of personal computers. Also, the main unit is very compact and takes up little space even on a desk. It is available for any personal computers with USB support, especially best for notebook personal computers with no PCI expansion slot. When using it with a desktop personal computer, connection can be done simply, without opening a main unit cover.
The installation on a personal computer is quick and easy, and with bundled utility software, you can start input and output of signals instantly. In addition to communication by Full Speed (12Mbps), the USB Module Series supports the communication by High Speed (480Mbps). When a host controller supports High Speed USB 2.0, the module will communicate at 480Mbps. When communicating at High Speed, the response for module access is improved compared with that at Full Speed and high speed data transfer is realized.

| [ Features of the Isolated Analog Input Module ADI16-4(USB) ]
- Storing 256K data
ADI16-4(USB) can store up to 256K sampled data. Because CPU is incorporated in the module, USB communication processing will not result in data-losing, the data in every sampling period can be obtained. The minimum sampling period depends on how long it takes the module to process each sample and varies between approximately 200µsec (when using one channel only) and 1msec (when using 16 channels). (Measured values: The minimum sampling period may be longer due to factors such as the load on the USB link.)
- Analog trigger function
The ADI16-4(USB) sampling start and stop can be controlled by the signal change from a specified channel.
Because you can select either upward or downward slop again set value, sampling can be performed without missing the measured event.
- Isolated from external device
There is not external electric effect on the host computer by way of USB ports because of the isolation between the CPU of the module and A/D converter by opto-coupler.
- Voltage or current input
The input range can be selected from among ±10 and 0 - 20 mA. Each analog input pin can withstand up to ±20 V as it integrates an overvoltage protection circuit.
- Easy-to-install design
The system, in the module itself, incorporates a 35mm DIN rail mounting mechanism as a standard item, so it can be attached and detached easily.
- Easy to extend input channel
By adding expansion modules Option, the number of input channels can be increased.
It adopts the unique configuration of stack connecting which permits a simple, compact system configuration.
