Non-Isolated, Bidirectional Digital I/O Board for Low Profile PCI
PIO-48D(LPCI)H

 Contec Co. Ltd., a manufacturer of PC peripherals, industrial computers, and network equipment, has developed and commenced sales of the PIO-48D(LPCI)H "Non-Isolated, Bidirectional Digital I/O Board for Low Profile PCI", a Low Profile PCI board that can perform bidirectional input and output of TTL level signals. The board is completely lead free (Phase 2 and above) and is part of the company's range of PC measurement and control components.

 The PIO-48D(LPCI)H PCI board adds TTL level digital signal I/O functions to a PC and can be installed in Low Profile PCI slots, making the board suitable for thin rack-mounted PCs, compact desktop PCs, and other small PCs in which only Low Profile type PCI expansion slots are available. (An alternative standard PCI slot bracket is also supplied. The board can be used in standard PCI slots simply by changing the bracket.)

 The board features two i8255 (mode 0) equivalent parallel I/O ICs which provide a maximum of 48 I/O points that can be set by software as either inputs or outputs. The digital input function also incorporates an "interrupt control function" that sends an interrupt request to the PC when a change occurs on an input signal, and a "digital filter function" to prevent invalid inputs due to noise or chattering.

 Driver software for both Windows and Linux is included on the supplied CD-ROM [model: API-PAC(W32)], and common programming languages such as Visual Basic or Visual C/C++ on Windows and gcc or Kylix2 on Linux can be used to develop application software.

 Optional connector cables are available and can be selected to suit your application. The DIO-68M/96F shielded cable is suitable if using an intermediate terminal block, and the PCA68PS-**P(note 1) laminated shielded ribbon cable is suitable if using your own connector or connecting directly to the external device without going via an intermediate terminal block.

 As the PIO-48D(LPCI)H uses the same connector type and signal layout as the PIO-48D(CB)H board, the same accessories and cables can be used. (The PIO-48D(CB)H provides the same functions in a CardBus PC card format and is already on sale.)
 Similarly, the PIO-48D(PCI) provides similar functions in a PCI board. The connector type and signal layout when the PIO-48D(LPCI)H uses the DIO-68M/96F option cable are the same as when the PIO-48D(PCI) uses the PCA68PS-**P(note 1) option cable, and therefore the same terminal block and other accessories can be used.

  • This board can be used to input/output 48 points bi-directional digital corresponding to the i8255 mode 0.

  • The connector signal assignments when the DIO-68M/96F cable is used are the same as the cable connector signal assignments for the PCB96P-** series and the PCB96PS-**P series option cable on the PIO-48D(PCI).
  • You can use all of the input signals as interrupt inputs. You can also select the interrupt trigger edge of the input signal.
  • The board has a digital filter to prevent input signals from carrying noise or chattering.
