New Lead-Free Insulated Serial I/O Boards Added to the Low-Profile PCI Series Insulated RS-422A/458 Serial I/O Boards for Low-Profile PCI Slots 1-channel Type: COM-1PD(LPCI)H 2-channel Type: COM-2PD(LPCI)H

CONTEC Co., Ltd., a comprehensive manufacturer of PC peripherals, industrial computers, and network equipment, has developed and commenced sales of lead-free, insulated RS-422A/485 serial I/O boards: Model COM-1PD(LPCI)H (1-channel type) and Model COM-2PD(LPCI)H (2-channel type). These models can add RS-422A or RS-485 serial ports to PCs with low-profile PCI expansion slots.  The COM-1PD(LPCI)H is a PCI board with one channel of RS-422A/485 serial communication interface (while the COM-2PD(LPCI)H has two channels). It can be used in a small or space-saving desktop PCs or low-profile rackmount PCs which have only low-profile PCI expansion slots. (As the package contains a bracket for standard PCI slots as well, the board can be plugged into a standard PCI slot by replacing the bracket.)  The transmission/reception lines incorporate insulated circuits, allowing long-distance communication applications to be used safely. The board also carries 128 bytes of transmission FIFO buffer memory and 128 bytes of reception FIFO buffer memory, and you can adjust the FIFO trigger size that determines the timing of transmission or reception of buffered data. You can increase the FIFO trigger size to reduce the CPU load or decrease it to improve realtimeness, thereby enabling optimization depending on the application.  Using the standard COM driver software (found on the bundled CD-ROM) makes Windows and a Linux distribution OS recognize a standard COM Port, allowing the board to offer high versatility.  Note that the COM-1PD(LPCI)H and COM-2PD(LPCI)H conforms to lead-free level Phase 2 of JEITA (Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association).

[ Features ] Provided with COM ports that support both RS-422A and 485 standards. Embedded insulating circuit enables stable long distance communication. Can be used as standard COM ports both in Windows and Linux environment. A maximum of 16 boards can be installed as configured in the range COM1 - COM256. Has transmit and receive buffers of 128 bytes for each. FIFO trigger size can be adjusted. Appropriate adjustment for each system achieves optimum performance. Maximum communication speed = 921,600bps. The baud rate can be set independently for each channel, by software. The data transfer mode (full duplex or half duplex) can be set by a switch. The board includes a 100Ω terminating resistor required for multi-drop (party line) connections. The resistor for each channel can be inserted into the signal line by a switch. Support for both of low-profile and standard PCI slots (interchangeable with a bundled bracket).

On Windows, the standard Win32 API communication routines (including CreateFile( ), WriteFile( ), ReadFile( ), and SetCommState( )) are available as usual. The Visual Basic communication control (MSComm) is also supported. On Linux, the software is compatible with the operating system's standard tty driver.
