CONTEC Co., Ltd., a comprehensive manufacturer of PC peripherals, industrial computers, and network equipment, commences sales of a GPIP communication micro-converter, GP-IP(USB)FL, from the last day of October. CONTEC has developed this product as a USB 2.0 compliant, low-cost and high-speed type capable of GPIB communication via USB connection, as an addition to the "GPIB Communication Interface F Series" well received for its high-speed communication at 1.5 Mbytes per second and its rich set of functions since its release.
The GP-IP(USB)FL can connect a measuring instrument to a USB port on your PC via GPIB communication. One of the major features of this product is a simple look as it can connect them using a general USB cable in place of a GPIB cable. As the product itself is a USB device, you can easily and quickly install it on your PC. This means you can use the product to enable GPIB communication even from a notebook PC with no expansion board slot or a space-saving PC with few expansion slots via IEEE-48. The product supports USB 2.0 to enable communication at high speed (a maximum of 480 Mbps). The product is bus-powered from the USB port and thus requires no external power supply, resulting in its compact design and best suited for use in a narrow space with a small number of wall outlets available.
The "GPIB Communication Interface F Series" supplied by CONTEC is a line of GPIB communication adapters conforming to the IEEE 488.1 and IEEE 488.2 standards. The F Series contains an advanced high-speed GPIB controller (μPD7210 compatible) developed by CONTEC and provides a wealth of functions based on user needs, such as high-speed communication at up to 1.5 Mbytes per second, serial poll event (SPAS) function, line monitor function, and high-precision application timer. The GP-IP(USB)FL released this time as a new product is a low-cost model with no "bus analyzer function."
Note that the GP-IP(USB)FL achieves a lead-free level of Phase 2 defined by JEITA (Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association).

- Complies with the USB 2.0 / USB1.1 standard
The converter complies with the USB2.0/USB1.1 standard and so high-speed transfer (480Mbps) is possible.
- Complies with the IEEE-488.2 standard
As the converter complies with the IEEE-488.2 standard, you can control any external device that supports this standard.
- Data transfer speed 1.5Mbyte/sec max.
The maximum data transfer speed for communications is 1.5Mbyte/sec. (800kbps when loading to PC.)
- Internal 2Kbyte FIFO buffers for send and receive
The converter has separate 2Kbyte FIFO buffers for sending and receiving data, allowing both small and large volumes of data to be transferred at high speed.
Interface messages also use a FIFO to enable high-speed transmission.
- Built-in SPAS event function
In addition to the functions of the earlier GPIB controller (µPD7210), the board also supports the SPAS event generated when a serial poll occurs. This gives you a high level of flexibility in constructing your system.
- Long term availability
As the board uses a high-speed GPIB controller developed by CONTEC (upwardly compatible with the µPD7210), reliable long term availability is ensured.
- Diagnostic program
A diagnostic program is supplied to support system development. The diagnostic program can be used to check hardware operation (interrupts and I/O addresses) and to perform simple communication tests with connected devices.
- Other
A function is provided to read all control lines and data lines. This enables various operations to be performed from the application.

- API Functions Library API-USBP(WDM) (Bundled)
API-USBP(WDM) is the library software that provides the commands for CONTEC hardware products in the form of Windows standard Win32 API functions (DLL). It makes it easy to create high-speed application software taking advantage of the CONTEC hardware using various programming languages that support Win32 API functions, such as Visual Basic and Visual C/C++.
It can also be used by the installed diagnosis program to check hardware operations.
Download service for up-to-date drivers and difference files is also available.
API-GPIB(98/PC) and API-GPLV(W32) will be available in spring, 2006.
