CONTEC Co., Ltd., a comprehensive manufacturer of PC peripherals, industrial computers, and network equipment, has developed and releases new products (two types): RS-232C-to-Ethernet media converters (model names: RP-COM(FIT)H and RP-COM(FIT)H-AF). The new products can be used in various forms of applications, such as to serve as a standard COM port on a Windows PC via Ethernet converted from the RS-232C serial communications interface.

The new products is used for media conversion from the RS-232C serial communications interface to Ethernet. Using an Ethernet communication network enables remote-distance communication over a communication distance of 15 m standardized for RS-232C. The products provide three operating modes (described below) for specific applications, including the mode for remote control from a PC to remote RS-232C communication equipment via Ethernet.
The new products is upward compatible with the conventional product "RP-COM(FIT)GY". One of the major features is that the new products can increase the number of channels of serial communications ports by connecting a stack of optional expansion modules "device modules". The expandable device modules are the COM-2(FIT)GY for adding two RS-232C channels and the COM-1PD(FIT)GY for adding one RS-422A/RS-458 channel. Any combination of up to three modules can be used to add up to seven channels.
The new products are different in input power supply specifications. One is the RP-COM(FIT)H supporting a wide range of supply voltages from 10 to 30 VDC assuming a 12-VDC or 24-VDC power supply environment; the other is the PR-COM(FIT)H-AF supporting PoE (IEEE 802.3a compliant LAN cable power supply) and a 5-VDC power supply environment. To each model , an AC adapter (optional) is available for use in a 100-VAC power supply environment.

[Three Mode]
Virtual COM Mode
This mode allows the RS-232C ports on the RP-COM(FIT)H and RP-COM(FIT)H-AF to be used in the same way as a COM port (standard COM) on the PC's system unit. Installing the virtual COM driver allows the media converter's RS-232C port to be used as if a new COM port is added to the PC's system unit. Up to 32 ports can be added.
Through Mode
This port allows a pair of serial communication media converters to be used as an extension of the RS-232C-LAN (Ethernet)-RS-232C cable. The media converters are used for cable extension using an Ethernet cable instead of an RS-232C cable. This mode eliminates the need for modifying device settings or software.

Modem Mode
This mode uses modem commands under a CONTEC proprietary protocol. As the modem commands performs transmission and reception with the IDs of the receiver and the sender, N-to-N communication can be performed between those devices which have that communications program installed which interpret the modem commands.

Creates communication programs capable of communications between
multiple terminals (N:N, max. 254 terminals)
Up to 7 channels available for RS-232C (when three COM-2(FIT)GY's are added)
- Add-on device modules [COM-2(FIT)GY] (for RS-232C 2ch) and [COM-1PD(FIT)GY] *2 (for RS-422A/RS-485 1ch) can be freely combined to allow up to three units to be added for extension

RS-232C supports up to 921.600bps (Serial communication section)*3
The wired LAN can be 10Base-T or 100Base-TX (Ethernet section)
Provided a 35mm DIN rail attachment
*1: For supplying power from UTP cables, it is recommended to connect to our POW-CB30(af) or POW-CBM4(af).
*2: The multi-drop function is not supported in COM-1PD(FIT)GY.
*3: The speed may be affected by the party on the other side of the connection and the cable length.

Serial communication Media Converter Software (CD-ROM [RP-COM Series Setup Disk]) (bundled)
Includes a utility program for device setup and a virtual COM driver for Windows. For more details, refer to the Help section on the attached CD-ROM.
Setup utility:
- Automatically detects RP-COM(FIT)H and RP-COM(FIT)H-AF on the network upon startup.
- Can set the device for the operating mode (Virtual COM Mode, Penetration Mode, Modem Mode), Device ID, IP address, subnet mask, etc.
Virtual COM Driver :
- Software allowing devices in our serial communication media converter series to be used like the COM ports of a PC (standard COM) in the Windows environment.
- For the Windows OS standard, the driver supports communication functions such as CreateFile( ),WriteFile( ), ReadFile( ) and SetCommState( ). It also supports the communication control of Visual Basic (MS Comm)
