Contec Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Nishiyodogawa-ku, Osaka; President: Kazuyoshi Nishiyama) has introduced two new ultra-compact and ultra-low power digital I/O units supporting Wi-Fi networks—the DIO-0404RY-LWF and the DIO-0404RY-LWF-US (for the U.S. market). Designed to accelerate IoT integration and wiring reduction in industrial applications, these new products will go on sale June 30, 2026.

The new products feature an ultra-compact, ultra-low power design that enables remote control and status monitoring of digital I/O signals via a Wi-Fi network. The products include 4 digital signal outputs (semiconductor relays) and 4 opto-coupler-isolated inputs (12–24 VDC, supporting both current sink and source outputs).

The units support Modbus-TCP communication over a Wi-Fi network. In addition, by using the API-DIO(WDM) driver library provided on the Contec website, users can develop application software in various programming languages such as Visual Basic and Visual C++.

These products make it easy to implement digital I/O control in equipment where installation space is limited and that requires low power consumption and high reliability, such as power control for battery-driven transport equipment or status monitoring for machinery operating in factories.

Main features

  • Ultra-compact housing with internal antenna
The products feature a built-in antenna and an extremely compact size of 128(W) × 39(D) × 30(H) mm, allowing for installation inside equipment or in narrow spaces. They are ideal for retrofitting existing equipment or for system upgrades.
  • Wiring-free operation via Wi-Fi 4 (IEEE 802.11n) 2.4/5 GHz stable wireless communication
The units support wireless LAN communication in both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. This allows for the construction of a flexible and stable communication environment that accounts for radio interference without the need for cable wiring.
  • Support for Modbus-TCP server
Modbus is a communication protocol that is widely used in industrial fields. These products enable remote control from higher-level devices with Modbus client functionality.
  • Automatic low-voltage shutdown function
The units include an automatic low-voltage shutdown function that periodically monitors battery voltage via an internal A/D converter. If the voltage falls below a user-defined threshold, the internal semiconductor switch is automatically turned off to stop the product.
  • Support for a wide range of temperatures
The products can be used in various environments with ambient temperatures of −20°C to +75°C.
  • Wide-range power input
The units support a wide-range DC power supply of 5.5 to 60 VDC and achieve ultra-low power consumption, with an average current of 1.89 mA when operating at 12 VDC.*1
  • *1
The average current consumption is a representative value during normal operation (approx. 1-second communication cycle).
It is based on actual measured averages during 2.4 GHz communication, including a margin for variability.
Measurement conditions are with all DI/DO OFF and all LEDs OFF.
