Contec Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Nishi-yodogawa-ku, Osaka; President: Kazuyoshi Nishiyama) has developed a new communication unit that enables CAN communication from a PC via USB. Sales of the new CAN-2-USB began on April 16, 2024.
CAN-2-USB
The CAN-2-USB is a CAN/USB converter unit that connects to the USB port of a PC to enable CAN communication. The unit complies with CAN 2.0B communication standards and supports communication speeds of up to 1 Mbps. It includes a USB Type-C port and can operate using the bus power from the host. Support for the SAE J2534 protocol also allows for use as a communication interface during automobile maintenance diagnosis and ECU programming. An API for low-level data transmission/reception is also available, enabling usability as a CAN communication device during inspections of automotive parts and ECUs.
The CAN-2-USB can expand the 2-channel CAN communication function to a PC. The unit complies with the CAN 2.0B communication standard and supports communication speeds of up to 1 Mbps. Each channel is controlled by a separate CAN controller, allowing for independent communication that is not dependent on the status of other channels.
The communication unit uses USB bus power to operate, so no external power supply is necessary.
With support for 10 to 32 VDC power supplies, the unit can be used in a wide range of power supply environments even without USB bus power.
Windows applications can be created using the device driver API-TOOL provided on the Contec website.
Contec is dedicated to expanding its lineup of CAN products for parts inspection, ECU inspection, and maintenance in the automotive manufacturing field, including the increasingly demanding electric vehicle (EV) field.
