CONTEC Announces the Launch of an Industrial Touch Screen PC That Can BE Installed on a Desktop and That is equipped with a UPS battery, Panel Computer PT-970 Series

CONTEC Co., Ltd. (listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Securities Code: 6639) has newly developed an industrial touchscreen PC that can be installed on a desktop and that is equipped with a UPS battery. This new series of panel computers is the "PT-970 series." As of the middle of March 2017, we have started to receive orders for this product, and these orders have started to ship as of April 2017.

Our new product, the panel computer PT-970 series (hereafter referred to as the "new product") is an all-in-one computer with a built-in 10.1-inch (WVGA 1280 × 800) touch panel LCD. It is being used in a wide variety of applications such as operating terminals for medical IoT equipment and pharmaceutical equipment, as touch-type reception terminals, and as terminals for biometrics and for entrance and exit management. As an industrial computer that CONTEC can supply for a long period, this product frees our customers from the bothersome operation inspections and device design changes that occurred each time that the model of the PC being used was changed. In this way, this product reduces development and inspection costs.

This new product is equipped with a UPS function, which enables it to operate for 5 minutes or more after a power outage. The included utility software can be used to automatically shut down the OS. The compact nickel-metal hydride rechargeable battery that we have newly developed not only provides a sufficient length of time for the power supply backup but also makes the product compact. The display has a range of movement of 140 degrees to the front and back, which makes it possible to adjust the angle of the display. The display can be folded down by 90 degrees to the front, which is the same as a notebook computer with its display closed. The (included) rubber feet can be used to install the product on a desktop. Additionally, this product can be screwed into a device just like an embedded computer.

  This product is guaranteed to be supplied for a long period of 5 years from the point it is released to the market. This frees our customers from the bothersome device design changes and operation inspections that occurred each time that the model of the PC being used was changed.

• Provides peace of mind even when power outages occur; UPS backup power supply and OS automatic shutdown function

  This product is equipped with a backup power supply (a nickel-metal hydride battery) that protects the system from unexpected power outages such as blackouts and momentary power failures. Utility software that automatically shuts down the OS is included.

• Reduces maintenance and can be used without concerns even in environments in which a large amount of dust is present; maintenance-free fanless structure

  This product uses a fanless structure in which heat sinks are used instead of a fan motor to cool the product. This is a maintenance-free design in which there is no need to replace the fan motor. There is no forced ventilation, so there is no need to be concerned about dust accumulating or being in the air within the product.

• A rich variety of expansion interfaces that match embedding in devices

  This product is equipped with a rich variety of I/O interfaces such as five USB 2.0 ports, two LAN ports, and three COM (RS-232C) ports. This makes it possible to connect directly to business-use peripherals such as barcode readers and thermal printers. The storage memory can easily be replaced from the side of the product.
