CONTEC Releases Its New Products:Two Types of RS-232C/RS-485 Serial Communication Units

CONTEC Co., Ltd. (listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Securities Code: 6639—hereinafter "CONTEC") has developed two types of USB connection units that make it possible to expand the number of 4-channel RS-232C (or RS-485) serial communication ports on a PC. These devices, which are new products in the PC-HELPER series of PC measurement control, will be released for sale on January 17, 2018.

The needs for the miniaturization and reduction in cost of industrial equipment such as manufacturing equipment and inspection equipment is increasing year by year. In addition, the number of cases in which space-saving PCs and notebook PCs are installed as controllers and operating terminals is increasing. Although general PC peripherals have transitioned to USB and Ethernet connections, many pieces of industrial equipment such as barcode readers, modems, and measuring instruments use the RS-232C and RS-485 communication standards. It is becoming more and more difficult to find PCs equipped with communication ports that support these standards on the market.

The new products that we are introducing at this time can be used to perform data communication between the latest PCs and industrial equipment using the RS-232C (or RS-485) communication standard. This makes it possible to develop compact and low-cost industrial equipment that makes use of PCs.

• COM-4CN-USB
  • RS-232C serial communication supporting baud rates up to 921,600 bps
    Equipped with four channels of RS-232C-compatible serial ports. The baud rate can be set between 300 and 921,600 bps for each channel.
• COM-4PDHN-USB
  • RS-422A/485 serial communication supporting baud rates up to 921,600 bps
    Equipped with four channels of RS-422A/485-compatible serial ports. The baud rate can be set between 300 and 921,600 bps for each channel.
  • Equipped with a terminal connector for simple wiring
    A terminal connector (screw type) is used for simple wiring.
  • Supports a wide range of power supplies (12 to 24 VDC)
    This product supports 12 to 24 VDC power supplies and can therefore be used in a wide range of power supply environments. In addition, the power supply connector is equipped with an FG terminal.
• COM-4CN-USB/COM-4PDHN-USB Common
  • Can be used as a standard COM port under Windows after installing the included driver software
    Driver software that makes it possible to use the product in the same manner as the COM ports of a PC running Windows is included.
  • Equipped with FIFO buffer memory for transmitting 128 bytes and receiving 384 bytes for each channel
    This reduces the CPU load during high-speed communication and data transmission and reception.
  • USB 1.1/USB 2.0 standard compatible
    This product is compatible with the USB 1.1/USB 2.0 standard and can transfer data at Full Speed (12 Mbps).
  • Compact design that enables installation in a wide variety of locations
    Compact design (188.0 [W] × 78.0 [D] × 30.5 [H] mm)
  • Varied installation methods such as with screws or magnets (sold separately) and on a DIN rail
    This product is equipped with a mechanism for DIN rail installation. It can also be installed in a variety of locations such as on the floor, on a wall, and on the ceiling using screws, magnets (sold separately), rubber feet, and similar methods.
