On September 24, representatives from Contec’s newly formed Golf League participated in the Toni Keen Memorial Fund Annual Golf Tournament to benefit local cancer patients. As part of our ongoing commitment to community outreach, Contec sponsored a hole and a team of 4 golfers. This year’s event included a golf tournament, raffle, and silent auction. We thank those of you that came out to cheer on the Contec team and support a great cause!

"The biggest reward for me is realizing that I've made a significant impact in someone's life." – John Crist, Founding member of the Contec Golf League

About the Toni Keen Memorial Fund

Toni Keen and Anna Rowell are two local woman whose paths crossed each other’s in 2008 when they met at their oncologist’s office during chemotherapy treatments. Both of them had breast cancer and were learning to deal with this in their everyday lives. As their friendship grew, they felt that others could use the type of support that they were giving each other when dealing with cancer. This led them to come up with the idea for “Chemo Buddies” in 2010. “Chemo Buddies” is a cancer support group in Brevard County that is meant to provide the emotional support that they were giving each other; but on a larger scale to more cancer patients that need it.

When Toni passed after a 4-year battle with Metastatic Breast Cancer, her husband Monte Keen and Anna Rowell did not want her work to end there. They established the Toni Keen Memorial Fund to further the work that “Chemo Buddies” was doing. Now there was not only an emotional support group, but also a financial support group to help with the different financial burdens that come with fighting cancer. The money that the Memorial Fund raises goes to different local cancer patients and their families to help with co-pays and other related expenses.

Our Commitment to Community Outreach in Brevard County

Our involvement in the Golf Tournament is something that is important to us as a company. Contec was introduced to this great cause by Monte Keen, Toni’s husband and Founder of Keen Machine and Sheetmetal, a longstanding Contec partner. Supporting this cause is not only important to Contec as a whole, but also to many different individuals within the company, as breast cancer affects so many individuals around the world today. What makes it even more special for us is that the Memorial Fund supports cancer patients in Brevard County, so we are able to give back to and support our local community.
