Contec Co., Ltd. (listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Securities Code: 6639—hereinafter "Contec") has developed the PT-956S Series Panel Computers which are fanless industrial computers with integrated touchscreens with quad-core CPUs that are compatible with Windows 10 IoT Enterprise (four supported languages). Product shipments start on March 1, 2018.

The new PT-956S Series Panel Computers (hereinafter "PT-956S Series") feature Intel Atom E3845 quad-core CPUs to achieve fanless and spindleless embedded computers with touch panel displays for industrial applications. The PT-956S Series can be used in a variety of industrial applications, such as HMI terminals for production lines and equipment in factories and operation terminals for distribution systems.

The PT-956S Series is the successor to the PT-955S Series Panel Computers sold from January 2014, and they feature compatible mounting dimensions to facilitate system replacements and upgrades. Compared to the PT-955S Series, CPU computing power has been improved approximately 400%(*1) and graphics rendering power has been improved approximately 300%(*1) while dramatically decreasing power consumption and more than doubling power efficiency(*2).

The PT-956S Series is available as three types: the PT-956SHX 15-inch (XGA) type, the PT-956SLX 12.1-inch (XGA) type, and the PT-956SLXP1 12.1-inch (XGA) type with 1 PCI slot. Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB 2016, which supports English, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean, and Windows Embedded Standard 7 with the same level of language support are available as pre-installed OS options. No OS and no storage options can also be selected.

  • Uses a multilingual OS to support users around the world

    The pre-installed OS models use Windows Embedded Standard 7 RUNTIME P and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB that support multiple languages: English, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean. You can change the display language, which makes this product optimal for use at manufacturing worksites and in other situations where multiple languages are required.

  • Reductions in running costs and energy usage

    This product uses the E3845 low power consumption Intel Atom processor platform in order to achieve low power consumption while still providing sufficient performance.

  • Fanless design that reduces maintenance and inspection operations

    This product has no CPU fan, uses CFast cards for storage, and has a completely spindleless design. This prevents dust and foreign materials from entering the system, and together with a design that reduces the use of components that deteriorate with age as much as possible, the burden of maintenance and inspection can be greatly reduced.

  • Remote power supply management function to reduce labor requirements

    The system can be turned on externally over a network (Wake On LAN) or by receiving signals over a modem (Power On by Ring). This leads to major reductions in the amount of work that is required.

  • Durable 5-wire resistive film touch panel

    This product uses a 5-wire resistive film touch panel that has excellent durability. This provides a long service life of 36 million operations.

  • Equipped with DVI external display output to support high-definition video

    This product is equipped with external DVI display output that supports displays of 1,920 × 1,080 pixels as standard. You can create dual-screen applications with this product alone by using its own LCD and displaying a separate screen on a large LCD TV. A display that supports analog RGB output can also be connected to the product by using the included analog RGB (15-pin HD-SUB) conversion adapter.

  • Convenient peripheral expansion Rich variety of interfaces: CFast card slots, etc.

    Equipped with expandable interfaces including DVI-I × 1, 1000BASE-T × 2, USB 3.0 × 1, USB 2.0 × 3, and serial (RS-232C) × 2. This product is equipped with two CFast card slots, which makes it possible to separate the OS and data for increased convenience. One of the cards can be used for system start-up, while the other can be used for maintenance or removed to transfer system log files or the collected data elsewhere.

  • Cable ties and CFast removal prevention fittings are available to prevent problems caused by cable disconnections

    Cable ties can be used to prevent connectors without locks from being disconnected, such as USB connectors, and CFast card removal prevention fittings can prevent problems from occurring by ensuring that CFast cards are not ejected.

  • Necessarily safe design for embedded applications

    The system can be booted even when the battery has died because CMOS data is held in EEPROM.
    On models with Windows Embedded Standard or Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB 2016 pre-installed, the Write Filter feature of the OS can be used. With consideration for safe design required for embedded applications, the Write Filter feature allows for prohibiting unnecessary writes when writing to CFast cards with count limits and for preventing unintentional system alterations, among other safety features.

  • Supports a wide range of power supplies (10.8 to 31.2 VDC)

    This product supports 10.8 to 31.2 VDC power supplies, and can therefore be used in a wide range of power supply environments. It can even be used in a 100-VAC power supply environment with an AC adapter (sold separately).
