Contec Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Nishi-yodogawa-ku, Osaka; President: Kazuyoshi Nishiyama) has developed a new compact all-in-one embedded PLC that is based on Raspberry Pi, loaded with CODESYS software PLC, and equipped with HAT-sized cards for I/O expansion. The company will start taking orders on September 26, 2024 and will start shipping in mid-October 2024.

Under the motto of “Bringing the ease of PCs to FA,” Contec has been developing interface cards for building PC-based measurement control systems since the introduction of the first personal computers (hereinafter “PCs”) in 1982, and has continuously adapted to technological innovations in expansion buses and operating systems, thus contributing to the expansion of industrial application of PCs. In April 2021, we developed the CPI Series, a HAT-sized signal input/output card that is compatible with Raspberry Pi, the international standard for single-board computers. We have also been developing peripheral devices that take advantage of Raspberry Pi’s excellent cost performance and customization capabilities for use in the field of measurement and control. The new product is a compact embedded programmable logic controller (PLC) that is loaded with CODESYS, the world's most widely used software PLC. This product uses Contec’s original single-board computer, which is based on Raspberry Pi’s latest embedded module, the Compute Module 4 (CM4). By using the wide range of peripheral devices for Raspberry Pi, such as Contec’s CPI Series, you can build various control applications in a PLC language that complies with the IEC 61131-3 international standard. The main features are as follows. With this new product, our customers will benefit immensely from the combination of Raspberry Pi and the CODESYS international standard technology.

Designed for reliable operation in harsh environments and for long-term use, this industrial-grade product extends RAS/RTC functionality while maintaining high compatibility with Raspberry Pi 4.
Pre-installed with CODESYS, the software PLC that is used by more than 400 OEM manufacturers worldwide, with more than one million copies shipped per year. You can develop programs using a PLC language that complies with the IEC 61131-3 international standard.
Supports HAT expansion (GPIO 40-pin header). Expand signal I/O and communication interfaces freely with the wide range of HAT-sized cards in Contec’s CPI Series, including digital I/O, analog I/O, and counters.
Well-equipped with industrial network communication capabilities. Supports Modbus, EtherCAT, PROFINET, and EtherNet/IP, enabling communication control of Contec’s remote I/O product, the CONPROSYS™ nano series, and M2M communication with FA controllers. In addition, with its OPC UA server and Web HMI capabilities, you can also use it as an all-in-one controller with integrated IoT capabilities to implement DX. (SoftMotion is optional)
