In recent years, manufacturing companies have been looking for innovation in manufacturing using IoT to strengthen their presence. In order to perform overall optimization of manufacturing factories—including supporting market fluctuations, improving operating ratios and quality, and reducing costs—mechanisms to collect, store, and use data are now necessary. However, the equipment and devices in a factory vary depending on the times when they were introduced and on their processes and the PLCs that control the equipment and devices also come from a variety of manufacturers and in a variety of models. To collect data from all the equipment and devices, it was necessary to absorb the varying parts made by varying companies, which had extremely high costs.

To solve this problem, CONTEC has developed "M2M Gateway for PLC," a data collection device that supports not only the PLCs of various companies but Modbus devices of various companies as well.

The data from PLC-controlled equipment can be collected with our new product "M2M Gateway for PLC." The data of equipment that is not PLC-controlled can be collected with our "M2M Controllers" (currently on sale), which support sensor input. "CONPROSYS" makes it possible to collect data from various types of equipment and manage this data in a unified manner.

"M2M Gateway for PLC" supports up to 10 Ethernet/computer link connections, enables simultaneous connections to PLCs made by different manufacturers, and also has a variety of features, which are shown below.

Features

  • Multi-vendor support for PLCs and Modbus devices made by various companies

The PLCs made by various companies are supported, and PLCs made by different manufacturers can be connected at the same time. Modbus devices made by various companies are also supported.

For details on what is supported, see the CONTEC website.
  • Linking with the data of up to 10 devices and of up to 100 group registers

Up to 10 Ethernet/computer link connections are possible. The data of a total of 100 group registers from 30 PLCs can be collected. For Modbus, up to 1000 data entries can be mapped.

  • Local server (on-premise) data collection support

CONTEC provides data collection software for use on Windows PCs free of charge. Installing this software on a Windows PC on a local network makes it possible to store data.

  • Equipped with a task scripting function for data processing on the device

The collected data can be processed on the device. The user can set the execution process by combining icons such as those for operations, conditional branching, and data output to create a flow chart.
