Embedded "BOX Computer" Models Equipped with Windows 10 IoT Enterprise Added to Different Series

CONTEC Co., Ltd. (listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Securities Code: 6639) is adding four "BOX Computer" models to its current lineup. The embedded PCs of the different series come equipped with Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, an OS tailored for the latest embedded devices. CONTEC will start receiving orders from December 2016, and the new models will be gradually released for sale from January 2017.

In addition to attaching great importance to inter-device and cloud connectivity in the IoT (Internet of Things)—where all devices are connected to each other to create new value—Windows 10 IoT Enterprise provides an application execution environment with excellent development efficiency. It is also equipped with lockdown functions such as storage write protection (Unified Write Filter), popup and toast display restriction, and USB device restriction; as well as advanced security functions such as ID protection, Device Guard (code signature), and Control Flow Guard (memory protection). With Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, the BOX Computers have evolved into more powerful connected devices. We will accelerate the development of scenarios for the transition of all industrial systems and equipment, such as manufacturing equipment, machine equipment, industrial robots, and medical equipment, to the IoT.

The four new products have enhanced BIOS functions allowing system image backup and restore from the BIOS setup menu. In the event the OS does not start up, a backed up system image can easily be restored in a few steps.

Windows 10 IoT Enterprise BOX Computers main features

  • Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 64-bit version

    The BOX Computers come with the 64-bit version of Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB2016, which features lockdown functions and advanced security functions, and is most suitable for IoT-connected devices. Japanese, English, Chinese, or Korean can be selected during the initial startup.

  • System image backup and restore functions

    System image backup and restore can be performed from the BIOS setup menu. In the event the OS does not start up, a backed up system image can easily be restored in a few steps.

  • BX-956S Series: 29-mm thick digital signage and device embedded PC

    Thin (29 mm), fanless, and slitless embedded PC. CE marking and UL standards already acquired.

  • BX-220 Series: Paperback-book size PC with intelligent RAS functions

    Compact (paperback-book size), fanless, and slitless embedded PC. Equipped with proprietary intelligent RAS functions. Various functions, such as saving detailed error logs (which are useful for troubleshooting) are provided to enhance system reliability.

  • BX-830 Series: Environmentally resistant PC compliant to railway standard EN50155 and intended for in-vehicle use

    The BX-830 Series BOX Computer complies with railway standard EN50155 and provides edge computing not only for moving objects such as railroad vehicles but also in harsh environments. Starts up and stably operates in environments ranging from −40 to 70°C.

  • BX-320 Series: DIN-rail compatible board-embedded FA control PC

    PC mounted on a 35mm DIN rail that can be embedded onto a control board. Equipped with an external PCI Express (PCIe) expansion connector. A PCI Express or PCI board can be used to add functionalities such as digital I/Os, analog I/Os, and motion control.
