CONTEC Co., Ltd. (listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Securities Code: 6639—hereinafter "CONTEC") has developed an Ethernet connection type and a USB connection type signal I/O unit (for a total of two types) that add a digital signal I/O function onto space-saving PCs as new products in our PC-HELPER series of PC measurement control. These products will be released for sale from January 24, 2018.

The needs for the miniaturization and reduction in cost of industrial equipment such as manufacturing equipment and inspection equipment is increasing year by year. The number of cases in which space-saving PCs and notebook PCs are considered for use as controllers is increasing, which has led to an increase in the needs for products that can be expanded by way of USB ports and LAN ports. CONTEC is responding to the new needs for PC-based measurement control systems by not only expanding our product lineup of USB connection types but also by adding a new product: an Ethernet connection type that can be connected from a LAN port.
The new products use the same driver software as our conventional products of PCI/PCI Express boards. This enables our customers to use the same API (Application Programming Interface) to perform programming without having to worry about expansion bus differences. Our customers can freely select the expansion method from PCI, PCI Express, USB, and Ethernet to match their system requirements.

Main features

  • Common between the DIO-1616LN-ETH and the DIO-1616LN-USB
    • 16 photocoupler-isolated inputs and 16 photocoupler-isolated open-collector outputs
Equipped with 16 photocoupler-isolated inputs (supporting current sink output/current source output), and 16 photocoupler-isolated open-collector outputs (current sink type) all having a response speed of 200 μs. Supports 12 to 24 VDC. The design consists of 8 separate commons, and each one individually supports a different external power supply. Equipped with LED indicators.
    • Equipped with a digital filter function to prevent false recognition of input signals due to noise and chattering
Every input terminal is equipped with a digital filter that can prevent false recognition of input signals due to noise and chattering.
    • Built-in Zener diodes and overcurrent protection circuit for surge voltage protection in output circuits
To protect against surge voltage, Zener diodes are connected to the output circuit. Each of the 8 separate outputs has an overcurrent protection circuit.
    • Varied installation methods such as with screws or magnets (sold separately) and on a DIN rail
These products can be installed in a variety of locations such as on the floor, on a wall, and on the ceiling using screws, magnets (sold separately), rubber feet, and similar methods. These products are standard-equipped with a mechanism for DIN rail installation.
    • Windows driver libraries included
Windows applications can be created using the included digital I/O driver API-DIO (WDM).
  • DIO-1616LN-ETH
    • Equipped with a failsafe function
This product is equipped with a failsafe function that can be used in situations such as when a communication error occurs due to, for example, the LAN cable being disconnected. (A firmware update is required.)
    • Supports a wide range of power supplies (12 to 24 VDC)
This product supports 12 to 24 VDC power supplies, and can therefore be used in a wide range of power supply environments. The power supply connectors include FG terminals.
  • DIO-1616LN-USB
    • Up to 8 input signals can be used as interrupt request signals
Up to 8 input signals can be used as interrupt request signals, and, for each bit, interrupts can be disabled/enabled and the edge of the input signal that generates the interrupt can be selected.
    • Can be operated with USB bus power or with a 12 to 24 VDC power supply
This product can be operated with USB bus power, so no external power supply is necessary. It can also operate with a wide range of power supplies (12 to 24 VDC). This makes it possible to use this product in a wide range of device configurations and power supply environments. In addition, the power supply connectors include FG terminals.
