Visualization of Electricity Usage

System Overview

When it comes to implementing measures to save energy, ensuring the transparency of usage statuses can be a problem. Current systems cannot clearly show how much electricity is being used by each floor or area in an office.

Monitoring how electricity is being used in each area according to time or other factors makes it possible to visualize the amount of electricity being used in each area and at specific times.

In addition to monitoring how much electricity is being used, the system also monitors for people in the area, making it possible to prevent unnecessary costs by turning off lights and air conditioning in areas that have been unoccupied for a long time. Data can also be used to analyze daily and monthly reports for other improvements as well.

System Configuration

Data from motion sensors on each floor and in each area of an office building, factory, commercial facility, or other location is collected through CONPROSYS nano—an essential remote I/O device for digitizing interspersed local devices. Meanwhile, electricity consumption amounts are monitored using electricity consumption sensors, and the data is sent to CONPROSYS TM, a constant monitoring and telemetry system. Stored data is then sent to FacilityView, a cloud service for remote monitoring, which enables remote monitoring of electricity usage amounts for each floor and area of the facility.

The data can also be used to display alerts when a set threshold is exceeded. Lighting and air conditioning equipment can also be shut down as needed according to the usage conditions.

Advantages/Results

  • Conserving energy, improving energy savings, and reducing costs through visualization of electricity usage in FacilityView

The amount of electricity used and the frequency of air condition usage for each area and floor can be monitored 24 hours a day. Predicted maximum values can also be established so that an error alarm can be triggered if the threshold value is exceeded. Detecting when an area is not occupied also makes it possible to turn off the lights or control air conditioning when no one is around to conserve energy, improve energy savings, and reduce costs.

  • Cloud-based computing for centralized management of lighting and air conditioners

The packaged tools in FacilityView make visualization easy even with no programming skills.

  • Reduced inspection and tabulation work

The HMI screen in CONPROSYS TM makes it possible to create floor maps and manage power usage, reducing the amount of inspection work needed to be performed by workers. Administrators can also configure settings and change operations and floor maps on their own.
