Contec has developed a new embedded PC for edge computing that is both highly scalable and equipped with an 8th generation Intel® Core™ processor. 12 new models have been added to the lineup (four with no expansion slots, four with two PCI Express expansion slots, and four with four PCI Express expansion slots). The company will begin receiving orders for the EPC-4000 Series of Box Computers in February 2022.
EPC-4000 (no slot)
EPC-4000P2 (2 slots)
EPC-4000P4 (4 slots)
The EPC-4000 Series is equipped with a variety of expansion interfaces including three Gigabit LAN ports, two serial ports, and eight USB 3.0 ports that can be used to connect to field networks, FA controllers, and industrial communication devices. In addition, models with PCI Express expansion slots can mount expansion cards for image processing, camera input, FPGA, NIC, or other purposes.
The space-saving design includes a single 12 to 24 VDC power supply that can be easily incorporated into equipment, while still featuring DisplayPort × 1 and DVI-D × 1, and providing support for full HD output. The built-in GPU HD630 supports 4K (3840 × 2160 pixels) resolution to allow for high-resolution image display and smooth video playback.
The EPC-4000 Series is ideal for applications that require both real-time, high-speed processing and advanced graphics processing. These products can be embedded in the latest advanced and compact semiconductor manufacturing equipment and machine equipment (CNC) for use as edge computers tasked with data collection or analytical processing.
Available with a power-saving, high-performance 8th-generation Core processor for advanced computation and drawing performance while minimizing power consumption. Reliable supply is ensured by the adoption of embedded CPUs. In addition, Moreover, CPU built-in high definition graphic chip Intel HD Graphics 630 makes it possible to play smooth full-HD image to dual displays of DVI-D and DisplayPort.
Equipped with expansion interfaces that include DVI-D, DisplayPort, 1000BASE-T × 3, USB 3.2 Gen 2 (USB 3.1) × 6, USB 3.2 Gen 1 (USB 3.0) × 2, serial (RS-232C) × 1, serial (RS-232C/RS-422A/RS-485) × 1, audio, and GPIO (isolated, Input × 4, Output × 4). This makes it possible to use this product in a variety of situations.
Induction noise is the great enemy of electronic devices, and is produced by motors and other rotating devices, as well as by high-power actuators. Separating the FG (frame ground) and SG (signal ground) prevents malfunctions caused by induction noise from the FG.
The model with two expansion slots (EPC-4000P2) is equipped with two PCI-Express (×8) buses, while the model with four expansion slots (EPC-4000P4) is equipped with four PCI-Express (×4) buses. The maximum size of cards that can be installed is 176 (L) × 110 (H) mm.
Equipped with the "Power failure protection system" function that protects data and prohibits writing to storage in the event of power failure. Along with the lockdown (disk writing suppression) function of Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, power can be safely turned off without a shutdown process. Moreover, file system damage or data damage caused by sudden power failure can be avoided.
The CPU cores/threads and onboard devices can be flexibly customized to match the OS. System availability is improved by original functions such as storage backup/restore and self-diagnosis functions.
