Contec Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Nishi-yodogawa-ku, Osaka; President: Akira Ikari) has developed the BX-M210 BOX Computer (hereafter referred to as the "new product"), an expandable fanless embedded PC with a space-saving design. Contec began taking orders for the new product on May 24, 2022.
GPIO Model
SATA Model
This new product is a fanless embedded Windows-compatible computer with an energy-saving, quad-core Intel Atom® x5-E3940 CPU. Despite its compact, space-saving design about the size of an A5 sheet of paper, the BX-M210 offers functionality that was previously only available through added expansion cards and other periphery devices. The product features a two-layer construction with basic industrial computer functions in the top half and space for expanded functions in the bottom half. Support for M.2 expansion cards also allows users to add a wide variety of functions.
As equipment and industrial facilities continue to adopt more complex and high-speed functions, the need for compact designs has never been higher, and high-performance, space-saving options are popular choices for embedded PCs capable of acting as controllers. Contec’s new product offers both expandable functionality that can be customized according to the needs of the specific equipment or industrial facilities, and a space-saving design at about the size of an A5 sheet of paper.
The BX-M210 will be available in two models: GPIO Model with 32 opto-coupler isolated digital inputs and outputs, two USB 2.0 ports, and two RS-485 ports, and SATA Model with a 2.5 inch SATA drive slot. Both models are available with optional wireless LAN + Bluetooth and pre-installed OS for a lineup of 8 different products.
The 32 opto-coupler isolated digital inputs and outputs of the GPIO model are functionally equivalent to Contec PC measurement control interface cards and are integrated with the API-TOOL driver software. This makes transitioning from a PC + digital I/O card configuration system easy with minimal program changes.
This new product can be embedded in a wide variety of devices, including checkout machines and ticketing machines requiring various signal inputs and outputs in addition to factory production equipment and IoT gateway devices. Contec can also customize products for use as a dedicated controller according to the needs of the customer, such as only using digital multi-point input (or output) functions, or incorporation of analog functions.
The space-saving design (55×182×155 mm (H×W×D)) of the BX-M210 allows for installation in an area roughly the size of an A5 paper.
In addition to a DisplayPort, four USB 3.2 Gen 1 (USB 3.0) ports, four USB 2.0 slots (limited to two in the SATA model), and two LAN ports, the product is also equipped with an analog RGB port and RS-232C ports (four in the GPIO model, with three switchable to RS-422A/485; and two in the SATA model, with one switchable to RS-422A/485). A slot for easily replaceable CFast cards is also available for writing logs and other collected data. Wireless LAN and Bluetooth connections are also possible with wireless models (BX-M210-J2313 and BX-M210-J2314).
The Power Failure Protection system protects data and prohibits writing to storage in the event of a power failure. When used together with the Windows IoT Enterprise lockdown (disk write suppression) feature, power can be safely turned off even without performing a shutdown process. This also helps prevent corruption of the file system and data due to sudden power loss.
