Remote Capacity Monitoring of Interspersed Tanks

System Overview

When it comes to replenishing storage and raw material tanks interspersed throughout a factory or plant, the workload can be incredibly high, and arranging refilling at the appropriate time can be challenging.

Monitoring and visualizing remaining tank capacities helps improve efficiency of refill operations for all tanks, making it easier to arrange materials and control inventory. Reductions in inventory management costs are also possible.

System Configuration

The remaining volume of a tank is measured using an analog signal from a water level indicator or level sensor, or from a Modbus-compatible PLC or level sensor. Attaching a BLE-compatible IoT angle sensor to an existing mechanical analog meter also makes it possible to automate meter-reading processes that need to be checked visually in conventional systems.
Measured data can be transmitted via a 4G LTE connection to the FacilityView cloud service, allowing the remaining volume of all tanks interspersed throughout a factory or in other factories to be monitored all at once in the cloud.

Advantages/Results

  • Remaining tank volume visualization using FacilityView

The FacilityView cloud service can be used for centralized management of remaining tank volume monitoring and data measurement even from remote locations. Administrators can create and modify factory map displays, tank level monitoring screens, and various other screens.

  • Email notifications for low remaining tank volume

Setting a threshold for the remaining tank volume of each tank makes it possible to get email notifications if the remaining volume drops below the specified level.

  • Reduced inventory management costs

Labor costs can be reduced by automating operations that would conventionally be performed manually. Inventory management costs can also be further reduced by optimizing refill operations through analysis of trends in remaining amounts.
